When kids express who they are through art, we stand in awe of their inspiring sense of imagination. Each artwork is more than a piece of paper with paint, but rather a glimpse into another world. One in which fantastic young minds re-imagine the ocean waters or create light and beauty in ways we never thought possible. Art opens a door for vision and possibilities to be explored.
“The creative arts allow kids to open their minds to better view and solve problems. Art broadens their perspectives,” Payton Wirtz, BGCCW Youth Development Professional explains. “This can help with motivation, feelings- allowing them to create things or draw things that they feel when they cannot say them out loud.”
During the month of May, the four hundred art pieces were submitted to the Club art show. The pieces displayed the kids’ hard work over the course of the school year. Each fantastic piece was judged by Ashtan Johnson-Chritensen, an Art teacher from Dean Morgan; Mary Fair, retired Verda James Art teacher; and Cari Faye, local Casper photographer. The purpose was to highlight all the amazing work and share it with the community.
Our Dubois Club members took home several first-place ribbons. Madison Harper, Dubois Club Director, shared how thrilled they were to participate. “We are very proud of our Club members! Our staff promotes artistic projects at the Club and helps fuel the creative energy for our kids.”
The experience of creative decision-making strengthens youth’s values and dreams. By exploring and experimenting with their ideas, kids can more confidently step into their roles of innovation.
Whether or not participants won a ribbon, they took pride in the beautiful work they’d accomplished. “Just by seeing their art displayed in a show it built their confidence in themselves,” says Brian McCarthy, BGCCW Director.
One Club kid, Youth of the Year, Jinnie P. expressed her love for art. “The art program builds my confidence and passion. I hope to continue exploring my abilities by participating in shows like this one.”
All-around
Club participants were positively impacted by the event. They congratulated their friends that won ribbons and started to think of ideas for their creations for next year!
